Shweta founded a dance group in 2023 to represent traditional performances at the University's Diwali and Navratri events. Recognizing the lack of cultural representation, she collaborated with the Hindu Society to gather students interested in performing. By teaching the performances herself, she initiated a movement that led to the creation of 'Nritya,' a dedicated dance wing. This small initiative blossomed, uniting classical dancers and musicians to build a vibrant artistic community in Bristol. Her vision for ICPAS is to establish a professional Indian Classical Performing Arts hub, guided by esteemed advisors, with aspirations to host an Indian Cultural Festival in Bristol featuring artists from India supported by the Ministry of Culture of both India and UK.
Shweta brings years of experience in Indian classical Kathak dance. Shweta is Kathak Nritya Visharad [graduate in Kathak] from Akhil Gandharva Mahavidyalay, Mumbai. She is trained in Kathak for over 15 years. She completed her Visharad training under Guru Apoorva Wadke Bakhsh Ji, a renowned artist of the Jaipur Gharana and is pursuing further Nritya Alankar training from Guru Dr. Smt. Manjiri Deo Ji. Shweta realized that there was no representation of Indian Classical dance in University of Bristol and the cultural events celebrated in University only included pop-culture representations sometimes which were not even Indian origin. With the help of Hindu society, she began the Nritya Kathak dance class under in 2023. The classical dance community grew exponentially. Seeing tremenduous representation from Bharatnatyam and even classical music in the University, she decided to start an independent society to advance the heritage of both Indian Classical dancea nd music, to provide a home to all students who had been trained and those who wished to learn.
Shweta believes in the power of storytelling through dance and emphasizes the importance of cultural heritage. Her classes not only focus on technique but also on the emotional expression that each movement conveys. She has performed at numerous prestigious events and is dedicated to making Indian classical dance accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
